Hadith 703

Narrated Fadala bin 'Ubaid (RA): I bought a necklace for twelve Dinars at the battle of Khaibar and it contained gold and gems. I considered them separately and found that it was worth more than twelve Dinars. I told the Prophet (ﷺ) about that and he said, "It must not be sold till the contents are considered separately." [Reported by Muslim].

1591.»©Explanation:
From this hadith, it is understood that if an item is inlaid with something made of gold, it is not permissible to sell it in exchange for gold without separating the gold part, because as long as both are not separated, it is not possible to accurately determine whether what it is being exchanged for is equal to it or not. This is the opinion of Imam Shafi'i and Imam Ahmad rahimahumullah and the majority of scholars.
