Narrated [Ibn 'Umar (RA)]: I said, "O Allah's Messenger, I sell camels at al-Baqi'. I sell for Dinars and take Dirhams (for them), and sell for Dirhams, and take Dinars (for them), I take this for that and give that for this (i.e. Dinars and Dirhams)." Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) replied, "There is no harm in taking them at the current rate so long as you do not separate leaving something still to be settled (from the exchange)." [Reported by al-Khamsah and al-Hakim graded it Sahih (authentic)].

(The narrator "Simaak" became confused in his old age and would accept prompting. His reliable companions have reported this narration as mawquf (stopped) upon Ibn Umar radi Allahu anhuma.)

Benefits and Issues:
It is derived from this that the exchange of different currencies with an increase or decrease is permissible.
However, it is necessary that it be according to the prevailing market rate of that day, and the transaction must be in cash, not on credit.

Benefit:
The meaning of the hadith is that if a transaction for something was settled in dinars, and the buyer, according to the exchange rate of that day, paid the equivalent amount in dirhams, then this is permissible as long as the payment is made in that same sitting.
