وعن ابن عباس رضي الله عنهما أن النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم قال : « ليس على المعتكف صيام إلا أن يجعله على نفسه ». رواه الدارقطني والحاكم والراجح وقفه أيضا.
Ibn ’Abbas (RAA) narrated that The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: The one who is performing I'tikaf does not have to fast unless he obliges himself to do so.” Related by Ad-Daraqutni and al-Hakim, and most probably it is also the saying of Ibn 'Abbas, i.e. Mawquf and not of the sayings of the Prophet (ﷺ).

In the aforementioned narration, it is stated that fasting is not a condition for the one performing i'tikaf (spiritual retreat). What is meant by this is the i'tikaf of a vow (nadhar) that is performed outside of Ramadan, because in Ramadan, fasting is already obligatory. Therefore, in Ramadan, fasting is a condition for i'tikaf. «والله اعلم» ٭
