Benefit: Fulfilling a bequest (wasiyyah) is extremely important in Islam; therefore, Ali radi Allahu anhu himself performed the ritual bath (ghusl) for Fatimah radi Allahu anha. Thus, the bequest was fulfilled, and it was also established that a husband may perform the ritual bath for his wife, as has been detailed under the previous hadith.
Explanation:
Fatimah radi Allahu anha was the youngest beloved daughter of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. She is the leader of the women of this Ummah. In Ramadan of the 2nd year after Hijrah, Ali ibn Abi Talib radi Allahu anhu took her in marriage, and the marriage was consummated in Dhu al-Hijjah. At the time of consummation, her age was fifteen years and five months. She passed away in Madinah Munawwarah in Ramadan of the 11th year after Hijrah, six months after the death of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
