Hadith 413

وعن أبي هريرة رضي الله عنه أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم قال : « خرج سليمان عليه السلام يستسقي فرأى نملة مستلقية على ظهرها رافعة قوائمها إلى السماء تقول : اللهم إنا خلق من خلقك ليس بنا غنى عن سقياك فقال : ارجعوا سقيتم بدعوة غيركم». رواه أحمد وصححه الحاكم.
Narrated Abu Hurairah (RA): Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: Sulaiman (AS) (Solomon - Peace be upon him) went out to pray for rain, and he saw an ant lying on its back, raising its legs to the sky saying: "O Allah, we are creatures among your creatures, we cannot live without your water." He said (to his companions), "Go back, for you have been given water through the supplication of others." [Reported by Ahmad and al-Hakim graded it Sahih (authentic)].

«أخرجه أحمد، ولم أجده، عزاه المؤلف في كتابه اتحاف المهرة:16 /1 ص70، حديث:20399 إلي الحاكم فقط، قال المؤلف: أخرجه الحاكم في المستدرك:1 /325 وصححه«ووافقه الذهبي».»©Explanation:
➊ From this hadith, it is understood that previous prophets also used to go outside the city to supplicate for rain when there was a drought.
➋ The supplication for rain (du'a al-istisqa) or the prayer for rain (salat al-istisqa) should be performed outside the populated area; in this way, by distancing oneself from the hustle and bustle, commotion, and noise of the settlement, one's attention towards Allah increases.
