Takhrij:
«أخرجه مسلم، الجمعة، باب الصلاة بعد الجمعة، حديث:881.»©Explanation:
➊ This hadith proves that four units (rak‘ahs) should be performed after Jumu‘ah (Friday prayer).
Imam Shafi‘i and Imam Ahmad rahimahumullah, and in fact the majority of scholars, hold this view.
It is preferable to perform the four units in sets of two, but it is also permissible to perform them all together.
➋ In one narration, it is mentioned that after Jumu‘ah, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam used to perform two units.
(Sahih al-Bukhari, al-Jumu‘ah, Chapter: The Prayer After Jumu‘ah and Before It, Hadith: 937) For this reason, Shaykh al-Islam Imam Ibn Taymiyyah rahimahullah has said that if one performs the prayer at home after Jumu‘ah, he should perform two units, and if he wishes to perform it in the mosque, he should perform four units.
Abdullah ibn ‘Umar radi Allahu anhuma also used to do likewise.
➌ The Hanafis hold the view of six units after Jumu‘ah, but this is not established by any authentic marfu‘ narration.
And Allah knows best.
