Hadith 361

وعن عمار بن ياسر رضي الله عنهما قال : سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم يقول : « إن طول صلاة الرجل وقصر خطبته مئنة من فقهه ». رواه مسلم.
Narrated 'Ammar bin Yasir (RA): He heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) say: "The length of a man's prayer and the shortness of his Khutbah (religious talk) are a sign of his understanding (of the religion)." [Reported by Muslim].

«أخرجه مسلم، الجمعة، باب تخفيف الصلاة، والخطبة، حديث:869.»©Explanation:
In this hadith, the sign of the preacher’s (khatib’s) wisdom is stated to be that his prayer (salah) is long and his sermon (khutbah) is short.
A brief statement is easier to remember and to internalize.
The Friday sermons (khutbahs) of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam were generally concise yet comprehensive, which made them not difficult to memorize or recall—they would easily remain on the tip of the tongue.
But it is a matter of great regret that in this era, the practice of our preachers is generally the opposite: the sermon is long and the prayer is short. It is necessary in every way to reform this method, as it is contrary to the Sunnah.
