Hadith 354

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar and Abu Hurairah (RA): They heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) say (while standing) upon the planks of his pulpit: "People must cease to neglect the Friday prayers, or else Allah will seal their hearts and then they will be among the unmindful." [Reported by Muslim].

«أخرجه مسلم، الجمعة، باب التغليظ في ترك الجمعة، حديث:865.»©Explanation:
➊ The literal meaning of Jumu‘ah is “gathering together in one place.” In the era of ignorance (Jahiliyyah), this day was called “‘Arubah.” Islam named it Jumu‘ah so that Muslims would gather on a specific day at specific times for the worship of Allah, worship together collectively, become aware of each other’s circumstances, and be able to make collective decisions.

➋ This hadith establishes the obligation (fard) of Jumu‘ah. Abandoning it without a valid Shar‘i excuse results in seals being set upon the hearts, and a person becomes deprived of the religion. Ultimately, he ends up among the ranks of the hypocrites (munafiqun) and the heedless (ghafilun). Thus, considering the Friday prayer (Salat al-Jumu‘ah) as insignificant and displaying negligence and laziness regarding it leads to disgrace and humiliation, and also results in being deprived of divine success (tawfiq) from Allah.
