Narrated Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (RA): The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "Offer Witr prayer before it is morning." [Reported by Muslim]. Ibn Hibban has: 'Whosoever reaches the dawn, and he did not offer Witr, then there is no Witr for him.'

Takhrij:
This hadith is evidence that the time for Witr is until before the rising of the morning (Fajr). When Fajr rises, then the time for performing Witr has ended. «لاَ وِتْرَ لَہُ» means that the time for performing his Witr has finished. This is in the case when it is deliberately left; otherwise, if it is missed due to forgetfulness or sleep, then whenever he wakes up or remembers, he should perform it at that time—this is its time. The hadith that will come later indicates this. Our esteemed researcher has declared the narration of Ibn Hibban to be weak, whereas the researchers of Mawarid al-Zam'an have declared it to be authentic. In this case, the meaning of «فَلاَ وِتْرَلَہُ» will be as mentioned above. For details, see: (Mawarid al-Zam'an ila Zawa'id Ibn Hibban, edited by Husayn Salim Asad al-Darani: 2/420, 421)
