Narrated Abu Mas'ud Al-Ansari (RA): Bashir bin Sa'd said, "Allah has commanded us to invoke blessings on you, O Messenger of Allah! But how should we bless you?" Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) kept quiet (a while) and then said, "Say: 'O Allah, bless Muhammad and the members of his family as You have blessed Ibrahim, and grant favours to Muhammad and the members of his family as You have granted favours to Ibrahim. In the worlds You are indeed Praiseworthy and Glorious.' And the Taslim is as you know. [Reported by Muslim]. Ibn Khuzaimah added to it: "How should we invoke blessings on you, whenever we invoke blessing on you in our prayers?"

«أخرجه مسلم، الصلاة، باب الصلاة علي النبي صلي الله عليه وسلم بعد التشهد، حديث:405، وابن خزيمة:1 /351، حديث:711.»©Explanation:
➊ From this hadith, it is understood that sending blessings (salat) and peace (salam) upon the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam in prayer is obligatory. Imam Shafi’i rahimahullah, along with many other imams rahimahumullah, have declared it obligatory.
➋ Various wordings of the salat (durood sharif) are narrated in the hadiths, the details of which are found in Jala’ al-Afham and al-Qawl al-Badi’. And the most authentic narration regarding reciting salat in prayer is this one.
➌ Linguistically, “Aal” (family) could refer to all believers and pious people who have faith in you, but the correct view is that here it refers to those relatives of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam upon whom charity (sadaqah) and zakat are forbidden.
© Narrators of the Hadith:
«حضرت ابومسعود انصاری رضی اللہ عنہ » His name is Uqbah bin Amr bin Tha’labah, and his kunyah is Abu Mas’ud. Because he was among the Ansar of Madinah, he was called Ansari. He participated in Badr. He was among the eminent and senior Companions radi Allahu anhum. He participated in the second pledge of Aqabah, but at that time he was young. He resided in Kufa and passed away there. And according to one opinion, after 40 AH he passed away in Madinah.
«حضرت بشیر بن سعد رضی اللہ عنہ » His kunyah is Abu Nu’man. Bashir (this is not a diminutive, but rather on the pattern of fa’il) bin Sa’d bin Tha’labah bin Julas (with a dammah on the letter “jeem”) or Khalas (with a fathah on the letter “kha” and a shaddah on the letter “lam”). Because he was among the Ansar, he was called Ansari, and because he was from the tribe of Khazraj, he was called Khazraji. He was a Companion who participated in Badr and the pledge of Aqabah. He also participated in Uhud, Khandaq, and subsequent battles. He was martyred at Ayn al-Tamr in 13 AH.
