Lexical Explanation:
«مُتَرَبِّعًا» is derived from «تَرَبُّع». "Tarbī‘" is to place the lower part of the right foot under one’s left thigh, and to place the inner part of the left foot under the right thigh, then, with complete calm and tranquility, to place both palms on the knees in such a way that the fingers are spread out, just as they are spread in the position of bowing (rukū‘). [سبل السلام]
Benefit:
Our esteemed researcher has declared the chain of transmission of the mentioned narration to be weak, whereas Shaykh al-Albani rahimahullah, in his verification of Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah, writes regarding it that its chain is authentic. See: [صحيح ابن خزيمة : 89/2] Therefore, in a state of excuse or illness, it is valid to perform the prayer while sitting in this manner, as some scholars write regarding the mentioned hadith that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam had fallen from a horse, and due to this, he performed the prayer sitting in this way. Thus, it is understood from the mentioned narration that in a state of excuse or illness, performing the prayer while sitting in this manner is permissible and allowed. «والله اعلم»
