Lexical Explanation:
«وَلَوْ بِسَهْمٍ» Even if it is only an arrow. From this, it is understood that the sutrah, whether thick or thin and slender, should be at least as high and long as the rear wooden part of a camel’s saddle. And from the generality of the hadith, it is also understood that one should take care to use a sutrah whether in a mosque or elsewhere.
Hadith Narrator:
(Sayyiduna Sabrah bin Ma‘bad Juhani radi Allahu anhu) was a Madinan Companion. He resided in Dhi Marwah. His kunyah was Abu Thariyah. In “Thariyah,” the “tha” has a dammah, the “ra” has a fathah, and the “ya” is stressed (shaddah). The first battle he participated in after embracing Islam was the Battle of Khandaq. During the caliphate of Sayyiduna Ali radi Allahu anhu, he was sent on his behalf to Sayyiduna Mu‘awiyah radi Allahu anhu to take the pledge of allegiance from the people of Syria. He passed away at the end of the rule of Sayyiduna Mu‘awiyah radi Allahu anhu.
