Hadith 1348

Ibn ’Umar (RAA) narrated, ‘The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) never failed to say these words in the morning and the evening: “O Allah! I ask you for pardon and well-being in my religious and worldly affairs, and my family and my wealth. O Allah! Cover my weaknesses and set at ease my dismay. O Allah! Preserve me from the front and from behind and on my right and on my left and from above, and I seek refuge with you lest I be swallowed up by the earth.” Related by An-Nasa’i and Ibn Majah. Al-Hakim graded it as Sahih.

➊ In this hadith, refuge is sought with Allah from six directions, because a person is surrounded by his enemies from all four sides: front, back, right, and left. These enemies are both from among humans and from among the jinn and devils.
And from above, there is the danger of Allah’s punishments.
And specifically, refuge is sought from being swallowed up by the earth.
➋ In this, there is a supplication for the safety of one’s religion, protection from sins, safety in worldly matters, safety for family and dependents, safety of wealth and property, as well as protection from apparent and hidden calamities and misfortunes, and protection from illnesses and hardships. For He alone is the All-Powerful; unless He bestows His grace, a person can neither be safe from his enemies nor protected from sins.

Benefit:
This is a very comprehensive supplication.
In it, there is a request for well-being (aafiyah) for oneself in this world and the Hereafter, a supplication for the welfare of one's family and dependents, a plea for protection from the harm that may come through creation, and also a supplication to be safeguarded from being seized by Allah's punishment.
