Hadith 1228

وعن ابن عمر رضي الله عنهما قال : قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم : « الولاء لحمة كلحمة النسب لا يباع ولا يوهب » رواه الشافعي وصححه ابن حبان والحاكم وأصله في الصحيحين بغير هذا اللفظ.
Ibn 'Umar (RAA) narrated that The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “The Wala’ (of a manumitted slave) is considered as one’s lineage, not to be sold or donated (refer to hadith no. 984).” Related by Ash-Shafi’i. Ibn Hibban and Al-Hakim graded it as Sahih. It is also related by Al-Bukhari and Muslim with different wording

From this hadith, it is understood that the emancipator, due to the bond of wala, becomes entitled to inheritance in the same way as a close relative by lineage is entitled.
And just as the relationship between father and son, and between brothers, is such that it cannot be sold nor can it be given as a gift, similarly, the bond of wala also cannot be sold nor can it be given as a gift.
This is the position of the majority of scholars.
