وعن معاذ بن جبل رضي الله عنه قال : غزونا مع رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم خيبر فأصبنا فيها غنما فقسم فينا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم طائفة وجعل بقيتها في المغنم . رواه أبو داود ورجاله لا بأس بهم.
Mu'adh bin Jabal (RAA) narrated, ‘We went on an expedition to Khaibar along with the Prophet and we got some sheep (as spoils). Then Allah's Messenger divided some of them among us and divided the rest with the other war booty,” Related by Abu Dawud on the authority of reasonably reliable men.

This hadith is evidence that before extracting the khums (one-fifth share), something may be given from the original spoils of war (mal-e-ghanīmah) as a voluntary gift (nafl).

Benefits and Issues:
Whatever is consumed from the foodstuffs should be used up.
And the remainder should be collected as spoils of war (ghanimah) so that later the khums (one-fifth share) can be taken out and the rest distributed according to the shares.
It should not be sold; however, after each person receives his share, whatever he does with it is his right.
