Hadith 1113

وعن ابن عمر رضي الله عنهما قال:كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم ينفل بعض من يبعث من سرايا لأنفسهم خاصة سوى قسمة عامة الجيش.متفق عليه.
Ibn ’Umar (RAA) narrated, ‘The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to give some (members) of the Sariyah he sent out (i.e. some of the soldiers), additional booties especially for them, apart from the shares which are given to the whole army.’ Agreed upon.

➊ From this hadith, it is understood that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) did not grant this voluntary share to every combatant, but rather deemed it appropriate to give it only to specific combatants due to some particular benefit. Furthermore, even among those to whom he gave this share, he did not distribute it equally, but would give more or less according to service and benefit.
➋ From this, it is understood that even today, the head of state or the commander of the army can grant special rewards to combatants who render particular services, such as medals of varying value, insignias, cash prizes, etc.
➌ This serves to encourage the combatants and warriors of Islam.
