«أخرجه مسلم، الجهاد والسير، باب كراهة الاستعانة في الغزو بكافر...، حديث:1817.»©Explanation:
➊ From this hadith, it is understood that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam categorically refused to take assistance from a polytheist in battle.
➋ The incident is as follows: When the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was proceeding towards the Battle of Badr, upon reaching Harrah, a polytheist joined him. He was renowned for his courage and bravery. Upon arrival, he said that he wished to fight alongside the Prophet and had joined for the acquisition of spoils. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam asked, “Do you believe in Allah?” He replied, “No.” At that moment, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, “I do not seek help from any polytheist.” When he entered the fold of Islam, then permission was granted to him.
➌ Here, the question arises whether it is permissible to seek assistance from a disbeliever or not. One group holds the view that seeking assistance is impermissible. Imam Abu Hanifah rahimahullah and his companions are of the opinion that in times of necessity, it is permissible to seek assistance, as the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, on the occasion of the Battle of Hunayn, took assistance in the form of weapons from Safwan ibn Umayyah and others, and also took assistance from the Jews of Qaynuqa. In any case, in times of severe need and necessity, there is allowance for taking assistance in the form of weapons and manpower.
