وعن ابن عمر رضي الله عنهما : أن النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم ضرب وغرب وأن أبا بكر ضرب وغرب وأن عمر ضرب وغرب . رواه الترمذي ورجاله ثقات إلا أنه اختلف في وقفه ورفعه.
Ibn 'Umar (RAA) narrated, "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) applied the punishment of flogging and also that of exile, Abu Bakr (RAA) applied the punishments of flogging and exile and also 'Umar applied them." Related by At-Tirmidhi with a trustworthy chain of narrators, but scholars differed over its being traced back to the Prophet (ﷺ) or only to the companion.

➊ The meaning of the mentioned hadith is that the adulterer is expelled from his place of residence for a full year; he is exiled.
➋ Allamah San‘ani has said that it appears Hafiz Ibn Hajar rahimahullah has cited this narration in refutation of those who believe that the punishment of exile has been abrogated.
(Subl al-Salam) For when the Rightly Guided Caliphs acted upon it, then how and when was it abrogated?
