Chapter. Every Lahw (amusement, idle talk, etc.) or deed that diverts one from fulfilling one’s obedience (duties) towards Allah, is Batil [falsehood (disbelief, etc.)].
Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle said, "Whoever among you takes an oath wherein he says, 'By Al-Lat and Al-`Uzza,' names of two Idols worshipped by the Pagans, he should say, 'None has the right to be worshipped but Allah; And whoever says to his friend, 'Come, let me gamble with you ! He should give something in charity. " (See Hadith No. 645)
And what is the ruling regarding one who says to his companion, "Come, let us gamble"? And Allah the Exalted said in Surah Luqman «ومن الناس من يشتري لهو الحديث ليضل عن سبيل الله»: "And among mankind is he who purchases idle talk to mislead (men) from the path of Allah."
