And the statement of Allah Almighty «والوالدات يرضعن أولادهن حولين كاملين لمن أراد أن يتم الرضاعة»: "And mothers shall breastfeed their children for two complete years (that is) for whoever wishes to complete the nursing period," up to His statement «بما تعملون بصير». And in Surah Al-Ahqaf, He said «وحمله وفصاله ثلاثون شهرا»: "And his bearing and his weaning is thirty months." And in Surah At-Talaq, He said «وإن تعاسرتم فسترضع له أخرى * لينفق ذو سعة من سعته ومن قدر عليه رزقه»: "And if you disagree (and separate), then another woman may breastfeed the child for him. Let the wealthy spend according to his means for the nursing, and let him whose provision is restricted spend from what Allah has given him." Up to the statement of Allah Almighty «بعد عسر يسرا». And Yunus narrated from Az-Zuhri that Allah has forbidden that the mother harm the father because of her child, and its form is, for example, that the mother says, "I will not breastfeed him," even though her milk is more suitable for the child’s nourishment. She is more compassionate to the child and can show more kindness and gentleness to the child than others. Therefore, it is not permissible for her to refuse to breastfeed the child even when the father is willing to provide her with all that Allah has made obligatory upon him (in maintenance). Similarly, it is said that the father should not harm the mother because of his child. Its form is, for example, that the father prevents the mother from breastfeeding and unnecessarily appoints another woman to breastfeed. However, if the mother and father both willingly appoint another woman to breastfeed, then there is no sin upon them both. And if both the father and mother, by mutual consent and consultation, wish to wean the child, then there is no sin upon them (even if the period of nursing is not yet complete). «فصال» means weaning.
Narrated `Aisha: Hind bint `Utba came and said, "O Allah's Apostle! Abu Sufyan is a miser so is it sinful of me to feed our children from his property?" Allah's Apostle said, "No except if you take for your needs what is just and reasonable. "
