Narrated Ibn `Abbas: Those who have made their Scripture into parts are the people of the Scripture who divided it into portions and believed in a part of it and disbelieved the other.
Those disbelievers are meant in «المقتسمين» who swore by night that they would kill the she-camel of the Prophet Salih. From this comes «لا أقسم», meaning "I swear." Some have recited it as «لأقسم.» (with emphasis as in «لام»). From this is derived «قاسمهما», meaning that Iblis swore an oath before Adam and Hawwa (peace be upon them), but Adam and Hawwa did not swear an oath. Mujahid said that in «تقاسموا بالله لنبيتنه», the meaning of «تقاسموا» is that they swore by night to kill the Prophet Salih.
