Hadith 4685
وَاحِدُ الأَشْهَادِ شَاهِدٌ مِثْلُ صَاحِبٍ وَأَصْحَابٍ.
«لأشهاد» is the plural of «شاهد», just as «صاحب» is the plural of «أصحاب».
Narrated Safwan bin Muhriz: While Ibn `Umar was performing the Tawaf (around the Ka`ba), a man came up to him and said, "O Abu `AbdurRahman!" or said, "O Ibn `Umar! Did you hear anything from the Prophet about An35 Najwa?" Ibn `Umar said, "I heard the Prophet saying, 'The Believer will be brought near his Lord." (Hisham, a sub-narrator said, reporting the Prophet's words), "The believer will come near (his Lord) till his Lord covers him with His screen and makes him confess his sins. (Allah will ask him), 'Do you know (that you did) 'such-and-such sin?" He will say twice, 'Yes, I do.' Then Allah will say, 'I concealed it in the world and I forgive it for you today.' Then the record of his good deeds will be folded up. As for the others, or the disbelievers, it will be announced publicly before the witnesses: 'These are ones who lied against their Lord."
«وإلى مدين» means towards the people of Madyan, because Madyan is the name of a city, as stated elsewhere «واسأل القرية» meaning, ask the people of the village. «واسأل العير» meaning, ask the people of the caravan. «وراءكم ظهريا» meaning, he cast it behind his back, i.e., he paid no attention to it. When someone does not fulfill another's purpose, the Arabs say «ظهرت بحاجتي» and «جعلتني ظهريا». In this place, «ظهري» means the animal or vessel which you keep with you for your work. «أراذلنا» means the lowly people among us. «إجرام», the root of «أجرمت» is either «جرمت ثلاثى» in its simple form. «فلك» and «فلك» are used for both singular and plural; it refers to one boat or several boats. «مجراها» means the sailing of the boat; this is the root of «أجريت». Similarly, «مرساها» is the root of «أرسيت», meaning I made the boat stop (anchored it). Some have read «مرساها» with a fathah on the meem, from «رست». Likewise, «مجراها» is also from «جرت». Some have «مجريها», «مرسيها» meaning Allah is the one who makes it sail and He is the one who makes it stop; these are in the passive sense. «راسيات» means something that is fixed or stationary.
