Narrated Abu Dhar: While the Prophet was on a journey, he said (regarding the performance of the Zuhr prayer), "Wait till it (i.e. the weather) gets cooler." He said the same again till the shade of the hillocks extended. Then he said, "Delay the (Zuhr) Prayer till it gets cooler, for the severity of heat is from the increase in heat of Hell (fire).
The word «غساقا» that appears in Surah An-Naba means pus and blood. The Arabs say «غسقت عينه» meaning his eye is running. «يغسق الجرح» means the wound is running. «غساق» and «غسق» both have the same meaning. The word «غسلين» which is in Surah Al-Haqqah means «دهوون», that is, in the washing of something, such as a man's wound or what comes out of a camel, derived from the pattern of «فعلين» from "ghusl" (washing). Ikrimah said, the word «حصب» which is in Surah Al-Anbiya means «حطب», that is, fuel. This word is from the Abyssinian language. Others said, the word «حاصبا» which is in Surah Bani Isra'il means a strong wind, a storm, and «حاصب» is also called that which the wind brings along. From this comes the word «حصب جهنم» which is in Surah Al-Anbiya, meaning they will be thrown into Hell and will become its fuel. The Arabs say «حصب في الأرض» meaning he went into the earth. «حصب» is derived from «حصباء», meaning stony pebbles. The word «صديد» which is in Surah Ibrahim means pus and blood. The word «خبت» which is in Surah Bani Isra'il means it will be extinguished. The word «تورون» which is in Surah Al-Waqi'ah means you kindle fire; they say «أوريت» meaning I kindled the fire. The word «مقوين» which is in Surah Al-Waqi'ah is derived from «قي». «قي» means barren land, and Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said in the explanation of «سواء الجحيم» which is in Surah As-Saffat, it means the very middle part of Hell. «لشوبا من حميم» (which is in the same Surah) means that boiling hot water will be mixed with the food of the people of Hell. The words «زفير» and «شهيق» which are in Surah Hud mean to cry out loud and to cry softly. The word «وردا» which is in Surah Maryam means thirsty. The word «غيا» which is in the same Surah means broken, loss. And Mujahid said, the word «يسجرون» which is in Surah Al-Mu’min means they will become fuel for the Fire. The word «نحاس» which is in Surah Ar-Rahman means copper which will be melted and poured over their heads. The word «ذوقوا» which appears in several Surahs means to see the punishment; tasting with the mouth is not meant. The word «مارج» which is in Surah Ar-Rahman means pure fire. The Arabs say «مرج الأمير رعيته» meaning the king has abandoned his subjects, and they are oppressing each other. The word «مريج» which is in Surah Qaf means mixed, confused. They say «مرج أمر الناس اختلط» meaning the people's affairs have all become mixed up. The word «مرج البحرين» which is in Surah Ar-Rahman is derived from «مرجت دابتك», meaning you have let your animal go.

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle said, "The (Hell) Fire complained to its Lord saying, 'O my Lord! My different parts eat up each other.' So, He allowed it to take two breaths, one in the winter and the other in summer, and this is the reason for the severe heat and the bitter cold you find (in weather).

Narrated Abu Wail: Somebody said to Usama, "Will you go to so-and-so (i.e. `Uthman) and talk to him (i.e. advise him regarding ruling the country)?" He said, "You see that I don't talk to him. Really I talk to (advise) him secretly without opening a gate (of affliction), for neither do I want to be the first to open it (i.e. rebellion), nor will I say to a man who is my ruler that he is the best of all the people after I have heard something from Allah s Apostle ." They said, What have you heard him saying? He said, "I have heard him saying, "A man will be brought on the Day of Resurrection and thrown in the (Hell) Fire, so that his intestines will come out, and he will go around like a donkey goes around a millstone. The people of (Hell) Fire will gather around him and say: O so-and-so! What is wrong with you? Didn't you use to order us to do good deeds and forbid us to do bad deeds? He will reply: Yes, I used to order you to do good deeds, but I did not do them myself, and I used to forbid you to do bad deeds, yet I used to do them myself."
