Narrated `Aisha: We set out with the Prophet for Hajj and when we reached Sarif I got my menses. When the Prophet came to me, I was weeping. He asked, "Why are you weeping?" I said, "I wish if I had not performed Hajj this year." He asked, "May be that you got your menses?" I replied, "Yes." He then said, "This is the thing which Allah has ordained for all the daughters of Adam. So do what all the pilgrims do except that you do not perform the Tawaf round the Ka`ba till you are clean."
Ibrahim said that there is no harm in reciting an Ayah, and Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) did not see any harm for a person in the state of janabah to recite the Qur'an. And the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to remember Allah at all times. Umm Atiyyah said: We were ordered to bring out even menstruating women (on the day of Eid). So they would say takbir with the men and supplicate. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said that Abu Sufyan narrated to him that Heraclius requested the noble letter of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and read it. It was written in it: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. O People of the Book! Come to a word that is just between us and you, that we shall worship none but Allah and that we shall not associate anything with Him. Up to the saying of Allah, the Exalted: «مسلمون». Ata narrated from Jabir that Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) got her menses (during Hajj), so she performed all the rites except for the Tawaf of the House, and she did not pray. And Hakam said: I slaughter while in the state of janabah, as Allah, the Exalted, said: «ولا تأكلوا مما لم يذكر اسم الله عليه» that do not eat of that over which the name of Allah has not been mentioned.
