Hadith 2775
Narrated Ibn `Umar: Once `Umar gave a horse in charity to be used in holy fighting. It had been given to him by Allah's Apostle . `Umar gave it to another man to ride. Then `Umar was informed that the man put the horse for sale, so he asked Allah's Apostle whether he could buy it. Allah's Apostle replied, "You should not buy it, for you should not take back what you have given in charity."
Az-Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him) said regarding a person who dedicated a thousand dinars in the way of Allah and gave them to his slave who was a trader, so that he may do business with them, and the profit from it he (the owner) gave in charity to the needy and relatives: Can that person eat from the profit of those gold coins, if he has not given the profit in charity to the needy? He (Az-Zuhri) said: It is not appropriate for him to eat anything from it.
