Narrated Az-Zuhri: Ubaidullah bin `Abdullah told me that `Aisha had said, "When the Prophet became sick and his condition became serious, he requested his wives to allow him to be treated in my house, and they allowed him. He came out leaning on two men while his feet were dragging on the ground. He was walking between Al-`Abbas and another man." 'Ubaidullah said, "When I informed Ibn `Abbas of what `Aisha had said, he asked me whether I knew who was the second man whom `Aisha had not named. I replied in the negative. He said, 'He was `Ali bin Abi Talib."
Ibrahim Nakha'i said that it is permissible. Umar bin Abdul Aziz said that both cannot take back their gift. The Prophet (peace be upon him) sought permission from his other wives to spend his days of illness in the house of Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), (and the pure wives gave up their turns as a gift), and the Prophet (peace be upon him) said that the one who takes back his gift is like a dog that licks its own vomit. Zuhri, regarding the person who said to his wife to gift him some or all of her dower (and she did so), and shortly after he divorced his wife and the wife demanded her (gifted dower) back, Zuhri said that if the husband did so merely to deceive, then he must return the dower. But if the wife gifted the dower of her own free will, and the husband did not deceive her in any way in this matter, then this situation is permissible. Allah Almighty says «فإن طبن لكم عن شىء منه نفسا» "If they (your wives) willingly give up to you something of it (their dower), then you may take it."
