Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet sent some horsemen to Najd and they arrested and brought a man called Thumama bin Uthal from the tribe of Bani Hanifa, and they fastened him to one of the pillars of the Mosque.
And Nafi’ bin ‘Abd al-Harith bought a house in Makkah from Safwan bin Umayyah to make it a prison, on the condition that if ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) approved of this purchase, then the sale would be complete; otherwise, up until Safwan received a reply, rent up to four hundred dinars would be paid. Ibn al-Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) imprisoned people in Makkah.
