Chapter. Wish to be like the one who has knowledge and Al-Hikmah [wisdom i.e., the knowledge of the Quran and the Sunna (legal ways) of the Prophet ﷺ].
Narrated `Abdullah bin Mas`ud: The Prophet said, "Do not wish to be like anyone except in two cases. (The first is) A person, whom Allah has given wealth and he spends it righteously; (the second is) the one whom Allah has given wisdom (the Holy Qur'an) and he acts according to it and teaches it to others." (Fath-al-Bari page 177 Vol. 1)
And the statement of ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) is: “Become understanding before becoming a leader (that is, acquire knowledge of the religion).” And Abu ‘Abdullah (Imam Bukhari, may Allah have mercy on him) says: “Even after being made a leader, acquire knowledge, because the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) learned the religion even in old age.”
