Narrated Anas: Abu Bakr wrote to me what Allah's Apostle has made compulsory (regarding Zakat) and this was mentioned in it: If a property is equally owned by two partners, they should pay the combined Zakat and it will be considered that both of them have paid their Zakat equally.
And Tawus and Ata (may Allah have mercy on them) said: When the animals of two partners are separate, and each recognizes his own animals, then they should not be combined. And Sufyan Thawri (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Zakat does not become obligatory until each of the two partners has forty goats.
