بَابُ غُسْلِ الْمَيِّتِ وَوُضُوئِهِ بِالْمَاءِ وَالسِّدْرِ:
Chapter. The bath of a dead (Muslim) and his ablution with water and Sidr (lote-tree leaves).
Hadith 1253
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ , قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي مَالِكٌ ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ السَّخْتِيَانِيِّ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ ، عَنْ أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ الْأَنْصَارِيَّةِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا , قَالَتْ : " دَخَلَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ تُوُفِّيَتِ ابْنَتُهُ , فَقَالَ : اغْسِلْنَهَا ثَلَاثًا أَوْ خَمْسًا أَوْ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ ، إِنْ رَأَيْتُنَّ ذَلِكَ بِمَاءٍ , وَسِدْرٍ وَاجْعَلْنَ فِي الْآخِرَةِ كَافُورًا أَوْ شَيْئًا مِنْ كَافُورٍ ، فَإِذَا فَرَغْتُنَّ فَآذِنَّنِي ، فَلَمَّا فَرَغْنَا آذَنَّاهُ فَأَعْطَانَا حِقْوَهُ , فَقَالَ : أَشْعِرْنَهَا إِيَّاهُ تَعْنِي إِزَارَهُ " .
Narrated Um 'Atiyya al-Ansariya: Allah's Apostle came to us when his daughter died and said, "Wash her thrice or five times or more, if you see it necessary, with water and Sidr and then apply camphor or some camphor at the end; and when you finish, notify me." So when we finished it, we informed him and he gave us his waist-sheet and told us to shroud the dead body in it.
وَحَنَّطَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا ابْنًا لِسَعِيدِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ وَحَمَلَهُ وَصَلَّى وَلَمْ يَتَوَضَّأْ , وَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا الْمُسْلِمُ لَا يَنْجُسُ حَيًّا وَلَا مَيِّتًا , وَقَالَ سَعِيدٌ لَوْ كَانَ نَجِسًا مَا مَسِسْتُهُ وَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْمُؤْمِنُ لَا يَنْجُسُ .
And Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) applied perfume to the child (Abdur Rahman) of Sa'id bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him), then they carried his body and offered the prayer, and did not perform ablution again. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said that a Muslim is not impure, whether alive or dead. Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) said that if (the body of Sa'id bin Zaid, may Allah be pleased with him) had been impure, I would not have touched it. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said that a believer does not become impure.
Hadith 1253
