'And Anas bin Malik said that' I was present at the time of the assault on the fortress of "Tustar" in the morning light. The fire of battle was raging intensely, so the people could not pray. When the day had risen, then the morning prayer was performed. Abu Musa Ash'ari was also with us, then the fortress was conquered. Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the prayer we performed that day (even though it was after sunrise) brought us such happiness that the whole world coming to us would not have brought such happiness.
Narrated Jabir bin `Abdullah: On the day of the Khandaq `Umar came, cursing the disbelievers of Quraish and said, "O Allah's Apostle! I have not offered the `Asr prayer and the sun has set." The Prophet replied, "By Allah! I too, have not offered the prayer yet. "The Prophet then went to Buthan, performed ablution and performed the `Asr prayer after the sun had set and then offered the Maghrib prayer after it."
And Imam Awza'i, may Allah have mercy on him, said: When victory is imminent and it is not possible to perform the prayer, then perform the prayer by gesturing. Each person individually; if even gesturing is not possible, then suspend the prayer until the fighting ends or safety is attained, and then perform two rak'ahs. If two rak'ahs cannot be performed, then perform one bowing (ruku') and two prostrations (sajdah). If even this is not possible, then only the opening takbir (takbir tahrimah) is not sufficient; delay the prayer until safety is attained. This is the statement of the Tabi'i, Mak'hool.
