The Book of Al-Jumuah (Friday)

بَابُ الإِنْصَاتِ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ وَالإِمَامُ يَخْطُبُ:

Chapter. One should keep quiet and listen while the Imam is delivering the Khutba (religious talk) on friday.

Hadith 934
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ ، عَنْ عُقَيْلٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي سَعِيدُ بْنُ الْمُسَيِّبِ ، أَنَّ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ أَخْبَرَهُ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " إِذَا قُلْتَ لِصَاحِبِكَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ أَنْصِتْ وَالْإِمَامُ يَخْطُبُ فَقَدْ لَغَوْتَ " .
Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle (p.b.u.h) said, "When the Imam is delivering the Khutba, and you ask your companion to keep quiet and listen, then no doubt you have done an evil act."
وَقَالَ سَلْمَانُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُنْصِتُ إِذَا تَكَلَّمَ الْإِمَامُ
And it is also an idle act that someone says to the person sitting next to him, "Be quiet." Salman al-Farsi, may Allah be pleased with him, also narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that when the Imam begins the sermon, one should remain silent.

وَقَالَ سَلْمَانُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُنْصِتُ إِذَا تَكَلَّمَ الْإِمَامُ
