The Book of Adhan (Sufa-tus-Salat)
بَابُ صَلاَةِ النِّسَاءِ خَلْفَ الرِّجَالِ:
(167) Chapter. The Salat (prayer) of women behind men.
Hadith 874
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : " صَلَّى النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمْ فِي بَيْتِ أُمِّ سُلَيْمٍ ، فَقُمْتُ وَيَتِيمٌ خَلْفَهُ ، وَأُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ خَلْفَنَا " .
Narrated Anas:The Prophet prayed in the house of Um Sulaim; and I, along with an orphan stood behind him while Um Sulaim (stood) behind us.
Hadith 875
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَي بْنُ قَزَعَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعْد ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ هِنْدَ بِنْتِ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلْمَةَ ، قَالَتْ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمْ إِذَا قَامَ النِّسَاءُ حِينَ يَقْضِى تَسْلِيمَهُ وَهُوَ يَمْكُثُ فِي مَقَامِهِ يَسِيرًا قَبْلَ أَنْ يَقُومَ ، قَالَتْ : نُرَى وَاللهُ أَعْلَمُ أَنَّ ذَلِكَ كَانَ لِكَيْ يَنْصَرِفَ النِّسَاءُ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُدْرِكَهُنَّ الرِّجَالُ " .
Narrated Umm Salama: Whenever Allah's Messenger (saws) completed the Salat with Taslim, the women used to get up immediately and Allah's Messenger (saws) would remain at his place for sometime before getting up. The subnarrator (Az-Zuhri) said, "We think, and Allah knows better, that he did so, so that the women might leave before the men could catch up with them."
