Hadith 7545

Narrated `Aisha: (when the slanderers said what they said about her): I went to my bed knowing at that time that I was innocent and that Allah would reveal my innocence, but by Allah, I never thought that Allah would reveal in my favor a revelation which would be recited, for I considered myself too unimportant to be talked about by Allah in the Divine Revelation that was to be recited. So Allah revealed the ten Verses (of Surat-an-Nur). 'Those who brought a false charge........' (24.11-20)

Hadith Commentary:

Imam Bukhari rahimahullah has established the chapter heading with the following words:
“A revelation will be sent down concerning me, the recitation of which will continue.”
Allamah ‘Ayni rahimahullah has written:
“In gatherings and prayer niches (mihrabs), its recitation will continue melodiously.”
That is, recitation is the action of the servants.
(‘Umdat al-Qari: 16/725)

From this it is understood that there is a clear difference between “recitation” (tilawah) and “that which is recited” (matlu), because recitation is the action of the reciter, whereas sending down and revealing (inzal wa iha’) and speaking are attributes of Allah, as Imam Bukhari rahimahullah himself has written, that the sending down of revelation is from Allah Ta‘ala, and people recite it.
