Shaykh Abdul Sattar al-Hammad
Hadith Commentary:
➊
The commentator of Sahih al-Bukhari, Ibn Battal, has written that the purpose of this chapter heading is to affirm the attribute of knowledge for Allah, because for Allah, the raising or lowering of the voice holds no significance; He even knows what is in the hearts. However, this objective is not indicated by the presented ahadith.
➋
Hafiz Ibn Hajar rahimahullah has written that in the noble verse, the term "speech" (qawl) is general. If by it is meant the Noble Qur’an, then it is the speech (kalam) of Allah, uncreated, and it is an essential attribute of Allah, as has been established by evidences. And if by it is meant general speech, then it is the action of the servant, which is created, as is mentioned in the last part of the verse: “Does He not have knowledge of His creation?” From this it is understood that the speech of the servant, whether loud or soft, is created by Allah. (Fath al-Bari: 13/624)
➌
Ibn Munir has expressed the intent of Imam al-Bukhari rahimahullah in these words: The recitation of the servant is sometimes loud and sometimes soft, which is the action of the servant and is created; however, that which is recited is the speech (kalam) of Allah and is uncreated. Since Imam al-Bukhari rahimahullah was also tested regarding the issue of the creation of the Qur’an, he presents this issue in various ways. (Fath al-Bari: 13/624)
According to our inclination, the last position is the one based on reality and truly represents the thought of Imam al-Bukhari rahimahullah, and this is also indicated by the presented ahadith. And Allah is the One whose help is sought.
