بَابُ كَلاَمِ الرَّبِّ مَعَ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ:Chapter. The Talk of the Lord to the people of Paradise

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سِنَانٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا فُلَيْحٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا هِلَالٌ ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " كَانَ يَوْمًا يُحَدِّثُ وَعِنْدَهُ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْبَادِيَةِ أَنَّ رَجُلًا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ اسْتَأْذَنَ رَبَّهُ فِي الزَّرْعِ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ : أَوَلَسْتَ فِيمَا شِئْتَ ؟ ، قَالَ : بَلَى ، وَلَكِنِّي أُحِبُّ أَنْ أَزْرَعَ ، فَأَسْرَعَ وَبَذَرَ ، فَتَبَادَرَ الطَّرْفَ نَبَاتُهُ وَاسْتِوَاؤُهُ وَاسْتِحْصَادُهُ وَتَكْوِيرُهُ أَمْثَالَ الْجِبَالِ ، فَيَقُولُ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى : دُونَكَ يَا ابْنَ آدَمَ ، فَإِنَّهُ لَا يُشْبِعُكَ شَيْءٌ ، فَقَالَ الْأَعْرَابِيُّ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، لَا تَجِدُ هَذَا إِلَّا قُرَشِيًّا أَوْ أَنْصَارِيًّا ، فَإِنَّهُمْ أَصْحَابُ زَرْعٍ ، فَأَمَّا نَحْنُ فَلَسْنَا بِأَصْحَابِ زَرْعٍ ، فَضَحِكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ " .
Narrated Abu Huraira: Once the Prophet was preaching while a bedouin was sitting there. The Prophet said, "A man from among the people of Paradise will request Allah to allow him to cultivate the land Allah will say to him, 'Haven't you got whatever you desire?' He will reply, 'yes, but I like to cultivate the land (Allah will permit him and) he will sow the seeds, and within seconds the plants will grow and ripen and (the yield) will be harvested and piled in heaps like mountains. On that Allah will say (to him), "Take, here you are, O son of Adam, for nothing satisfies you.' "On that the bedouin said, "O Allah's Apostle! Such man must be either from Quraish or from Ansar, for they are farmers while we are not." On that Allah's Apostle smiled .

Hadith Commentary:

From this hadith it is understood that a person becomes so accustomed to the deeds he performs in this world,
that at times he will even desire to do them in Paradise.
Even though, in Paradise, there will be neither any need for such desires nor any benefit in them.
Nevertheless, Allah Ta’ala will honor the wishes of the inhabitants of Paradise.
The statement of Allah Ta’ala is:
“Therein (in Paradise)
you will have whatever your hearts desire, and therein you will have whatever you ask for.” ( Ham as-Sajdah: 41)

Imam Bukhari rahimahullah has established from this hadith that Allah Ta’ala will speak to the inhabitants of Paradise, and the attribute of speech (kalam) is a sign of perfection and is related to the will (mashiyyah) of Allah Ta’ala.
He will speak whenever He wills,
and to whomever He wills.
Those who have denied this or have made far-fetched interpretations are astray from the right path.

Hadith Commentary:
In reality, man is indeed this greedy.
No matter how much wealth and comfort he possesses, he is not content with it.
Desiring more is inherent in his nature.
Similarly, there is fickleness of temperament, even though everything will be present in Paradise.
Yet, some people will desire farming, and Allah, the Most Pure, out of His grace, will fulfill even this wish of theirs.
As is mentioned in the cited narration.
Which, in terms of its meanings and implications, is based on realities.
In reality, man is indeed this greedy.

Imam Bukhari rahimahullah did not establish any chapter heading for this hadith.
It is not necessary that wherever there is no heading, it should be considered a supplement to the previous heading; rather, sometimes Imam Bukhari rahimahullah intends that you yourself establish a heading for it, because it is indeed related to the subject.
In reality, Imam Bukhari wishes to draw attention to the virtue of agriculture, that it is such a commendable thing that even in Paradise, one may desire it and it can be put into practice.
It is a separate matter that in Paradise, there will be no delay in obtaining the results of cultivation; rather, as soon as one looks, the crop will be ready and fit for harvesting, and then, by itself, a heap of grain will be formed.
