Narrated Anas: Zaid bin Haritha came to the Prophet complaining about his wife. The Prophet kept on saying (to him), "Be afraid of Allah and keep your wife." Aisha said, "If Allah's Apostle were to conceal anything (of the Qur'an he would have concealed this Verse." Zainab used to boast before the wives of the Prophet and used to say, "You were given in marriage by your families, while I was married (to the Prophet) by Allah from over seven Heavens." And Thabit recited, "The Verse:-- 'But (O Muhammad) you did hide in your heart that which Allah was about to make manifest, you did fear the people,' (33.37) was revealed in connection with Zainab and Zaid bin Haritha."

Fiqh al-Hadith:
The Status of Sayyiduna Zayd ibn Harithah radi Allahu anhu, and the Virtue of Sayyidah Zaynab bint Jahsh radi Allahu anha:
➊ Sayyiduna Zayd ibn Harithah radi Allahu anhu came (to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) complaining (about his wife), so the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: «اتق الله وأمسك عليك زوجك» Fear Allah and keep your wife with you. [بخاري : 7420]
➋ It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas ibn Malik radi Allahu anhu that this verse «وَتُخْفِيْ فِيْ نَفْسِكَ مَا اللهُ مُبْدِيْهِ» was revealed regarding Sayyidah Zaynab bint Jahsh and Zayd ibn Harithah. [بخاري : 4787]
➌ Sayyiduna Anas ibn Malik radi Allahu anhu states that if the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam were to conceal anything, he would have concealed this (mentioned verse). [بخاري : 7420]
➍ Allah Almighty first clarified to the people of Islam the reality of an adopted son, see: [الحديث شماره : 12]
Then, by arranging the marriage with the (former) wife of the adopted son, it was made clear that the reality of an adopted son is nothing more than «اِنّما المُؤمِنُونَ اِخوَةٌ».
➎ The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was the embodiment of modesty and shyness.
➏ In the propagation and dissemination of the truth, one should remain unconcerned with the reproach and criticism of people, and, adopting the fear of Allah, strive for its propagation and promotion.
➐ The virtue of Sayyiduna Zayd ibn Harithah radi Allahu anhu is that Allah Almighty recorded his name in the Noble Qur’an, making it flow on the tongues of the believers until the Day of Judgment.
➑ The virtue of Sayyidah Zaynab bint Jahsh radi Allahu anha is that Allah Almighty arranged her marriage (from) above the seven heavens. [بخاري : 7420]

Explanation:
1:
You are concealing within yourself that which Allah is going to disclose, and you are fearing the people (instead of fearing Allah) (Al-Ahzab: 37).
2:
Keep your wife with you (do not divorce her) and fear Allah (Al-Ahzab: 37). Here, a fabricated narration has been invented by people that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) concealed in his heart that he loved Zaynab and himself wished to marry her, and therefore wanted Zayd to quickly divorce her—ma’adhallah (Allah forbid). In reality, what Allah was referring to as being concealed by the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) was this: it would have been better if Zayd did not leave Zaynab, otherwise, by Allah’s command, I will have to marry Zaynab. Then people will say: “Look, Muhammad has married the divorced wife of his adopted son!” (This was considered objectionable among them.) This is what Allah, the Exalted, is saying—that one day Allah will make this matter manifest. In this marriage, a false tradition of society is to be removed, and people are to be informed of the correct matter: that an adopted son is not a biological son, so his divorced wife or widow does not become unlawful (haram). Similarly, with an adopted son, the rulings of prohibition and permissibility in other blood relations are not correct.
