Hadith Commentary:
1.
Hazrat Umar radi Allahu anhu, while standing on this pulpit and delivering a sermon regarding alcohol, said:
O people! The prohibition of alcohol was revealed from Allah, and at that time it was made from five things: dates, grapes, honey, wheat, and barley. And khamr is anything that veils the intellect.
(Sahih al-Bukhari, al-Tafsir, Hadith: 4619)
2.
Imam Bukhari rahimahullah sufficed with mentioning only those words which were necessary, and that is the mention of the noble pulpit.
After the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, the Rightly Guided Caliphs radi Allahu anhum ajma'in used it for the same purpose for which the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam used it.
