Hadith 7328

Narrated Hisham's father: `Umar sent a message to `Aisha, saying, "Will you allow me to be buried with my two companions (the Prophet and Abu Bakr) ?" She said, "Yes, by Allah." though it was her habit that if a man from among the companions (of the Prophet ) sent her a message asking her to allow him to be buried there, she would say, "No, by Allah, I will never give permission to anyone to be buried with them."

Shaykh Abdul Sattar al-Hammad
Hadith Commentary:
Aisha radi Allahu anha, out of humility, did not like to be buried near the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, lest people assume that her status after the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and the two Companions (Abu Bakr and Umar) radi Allahu anhuma is greater than that of the other noble Companions radi Allahu anhum ajma'in.

Harun al-Rashid asked Imam Malik rahimahullah about the status of Abu Bakr radi Allahu anhu and Umar radi Allahu anhu in the eyes of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam during his lifetime. He replied that the status they attained after the passing of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was the same as it was during his lifetime.

He considered their outward closeness to be due to their inward closeness, that the two Companions radi Allahu anhum ajma'in were of higher rank and more worthy of respect than all the other noble Companions radi Allahu anhum ajma'in.
