Narrated `Umar: There was a man from the Ansar (who was a friend of mine). If he was not present in the company of Allah's Apostle I used to be present with Allah's Apostle, I would tell him what I used to hear from Allah's Apostle, and when I was absent from Allah's Apostle he used to be present with him, and he would tell me what he used to hear from Allah's Apostle .

Hadith Commentary:
From this hadith, the authority (hujjiyyah) of a solitary report (khabar wahid) is established, because Umar radi Allahu anhu would have certainty upon his (the narrator’s) report, and he (the narrator) would rely upon the report of Umar radi Allahu anhu.
Indeed, acting upon a solitary report (khabar wahid) has been occurring continuously (tawatur), but may Allah grant intellect to the blind followers (muqallideen), for what reason have they stubbornly denied a correct matter?

Hadith Commentary:
➊
The name of this person was Aws bin Khawli al-Ansari.
He had complete trust in Umar radi Allahu anhu, and Umar radi Allahu anhu had full confidence in him.
Both of these individuals trusted each other and believed in each other's words, and they would act according to what they heard from one another.
➋
From this hadith, the validity of acting upon a solitary report (khabar wahid) is established. However, some people stipulate conditions for this, for which there is no evidence. In any case, the method of believing in and acting upon a solitary report (khabar wahid) has been transmitted through continuous practice (tawatur).
And Allah knows best.
