Hadith Commentary:
➊
The hypocrites of the present era are more mischievous because they have revealed those matters which, in the blessed era of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), were carried out underground.
At that time, people concealed disbelief in their hearts; however, their manner of speech would reveal their identity.
Allah the Exalted said regarding them, and the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said:
“You will recognize them by their manner of speech.” ()
➋
In the speech of a straightforward and pure-hearted, steadfast believer, there is such firmness and seriousness that is not found in the manner of speech of a person who harbors malice in his heart.
According to our inclination, the position of Hudhayfah (radi Allahu anhu) appears to be that rebellion and revolt against the Imam is from the practices of Jahiliyyah, whereas in Islam there is no concept of Jahiliyyah; rather, to do so is tantamount to shattering and fragmenting the unity.
And Allah knows best.

Fiqh al-Hadith:
➊ In the time of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, when Islam was surrounded by dangers from all sides, the hypocrites (munafiqun) were not apprehended or killed, so that people would not go around saying that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam is killing his own companions. Now, this concession and leniency no longer remain, because Islam has become dominant. Now, only disbelief (kufr) or Islam remains.
➋ Hypocrisy (nifaq) is a major sin (kabirah). If the Caliph of the Muslims deems it appropriate, he can punish the hypocrites.
