Hadith 6942

Narrated Qais: I heard Sa`id bin Zaid saying, "I have seen myself tied and forced by `Umar to leave Islam (Before `Umar himself embraced Islam). And if the mountain of Uhud were to collapse for the evil which you people had done to `Uthman, then Uhud would have the right to do so." (See Hadith No. 202, Vol. 5)

Hadith Commentary:
The meaning of the chapter is thus: Hazrat Sa'id bin Zayd radi Allahu anhu and his wife endured humiliation, disgrace, and beating, but did not turn away from Islam; and Hazrat Uthman radi Allahu anhu accepted being killed, but did not accept the demands of the rebels—so, all the more, he would have accepted being killed rather than accept disbelief.

Some mention of the martyrdom of Hazrat Uthman radi Allahu anhu has already been written previously.

Hazrat Sa'id bin Zayd was the brother-in-law of Hazrat Umar radi Allahu anhu.

After becoming angry with his sister, it was upon hearing the recitation of the Qur'an by that pious woman that his heart softened.

It is true:

You do not know that the burning passion of recitation changed Umar's destiny.

Hadith Commentary:
1.
Hazrat Sa'id bin Zayd radi Allahu anhu delivered this faith-inspiring statement in the mosque of Kufa when Hazrat Uthman radi Allahu anhu had been martyred in a state of oppression.

Before accepting Islam, Hazrat Umar radi Allahu anhu used to treat Hazrat Sa'id bin Zayd radi Allahu anhu in the aforementioned manner.
(XREF_Sahih al-Bukhari, al-Manaqib, Hadith 3862__)

It should be noted that Hazrat Sa'id bin Zayd radi Allahu anhu was the brother-in-law of Hazrat Umar radi Allahu anhu, and his honorable wife was the sister of Hazrat Umar radi Allahu anhu.

Upon hearing their recitation, the heart of Hazrat Umar radi Allahu anhu became softened.

Hazrat Sa'id bin Zayd radi Allahu anhu, through his statement, shames the people of Kufa: Hazrat Umar radi Allahu anhu, due to being a disbeliever at that time, used to be harsh with us, but you, despite being Muslims, confined the rightly guided Caliph Hazrat Uthman radi Allahu anhu in his house, and then, out of enmity and oppression, martyred him.

He himself accepted being killed, but did not accept to kill you.
