Narrated Hamza bin `Abdullah: My father said, "When Allah's Apostle became seriously ill, he was told about the prayer. He said, 'Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in the prayer.' `Aisha said, 'Abu Bakr is a softhearted man and he would be overpowered by his weeping if he recited the Qur'an.' He said to them, 'Tell him (Abu Bakr) to lead the prayer. The same reply was given to him. He said again, 'Tell him to lead the prayer. You (women) are the companions of Joseph."

Hadith Commentary:
From all these ahadith, the purpose of Imam Bukhari rahimahullah is precisely that leadership in prayer (imamat) should be entrusted to the one who is distinguished in knowledge.
This is a most important position, which is not suitable for just anyone.
The noble Lady Siddiqah radi Allahu anha thought that her respected father should stand in the place of the Messenger sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, and if the Messenger sallallahu alayhi wa sallam were to pass away, people would develop all sorts of notions.
For this reason, she kept presenting excuses repeatedly, but Allah the Exalted willed that after the Messenger sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, the very first to occupy this station should be none other than Siddiq Akbar radi Allahu anhu, and thus his appointment was carried out.
The narration of Zubaidi has been connected (wasl) by Tabarani, the narration of Zuhri’s nephew by Ibn ‘Adi, and the narration of Ishaq by Abu Bakr ibn Shadhan.
‘Aqil and Ma‘mar have narrated this hadith mursal (with a missing link), because Hamzah ibn ‘Abdullah did not meet the Messenger sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
The narration of ‘Aqil has been connected (wasl) by Ibn Sa‘d and Abu Layla.

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said to Aisha (radi Allahu anha) and Hafsa (radi Allahu anha) that you seem like the women who were with Yusuf (alayhis salam).
The commentators have explained several meanings of this statement:
➊ Just as the women of Egypt used to converse with Yusuf (alayhis salam) against his will, you have also played the same role.
➋ Yusuf (alayhis salam) was of one mind, and the women of Egypt were of another; similarly, there is no harmony and uniformity between your thoughts and mine.
➌ The women at the time of Yusuf (alayhis salam) used to insist on their own opinions, and you have adopted the same approach.
(2)
From some narrations, it is understood that Abu Bakr (radi Allahu anhu) himself said to his daughter Aisha (radi Allahu anha) that she should speak to the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) about this matter, because I am not able to bear this heavy responsibility.
Meanwhile, Bilal (radi Allahu anhu) came to Abu Bakr (radi Allahu anhu) and called him for the congregation, so he said to Umar (radi Allahu anhu): O Umar! You lead the people in prayer.
Umar (radi Allahu anhu) replied: You are more deserving of this position.
