Hadith 670

Narrated Anas bin Seereen: I heard Anas saying, "A man from Ansar said to the Prophet, 'I cannot pray with you (in congregation).' He was a very fat man and he prepared a meal for the Prophet and invited him to his house. He spread out a mat for the Prophet, and washed one of its sides with water, and the Prophet prayed two rak`at on it." A man from the family of Al-Jaruid [??] asked, "Did the Prophet used to pray the Duha (forenoon) prayer?" Anas said, "I did not see him praying the Duha prayer except on that day."

Hadith Commentary:
Here, by bringing this hadith, the apparent purpose of Imam Bukhari rahimahullah seems to be that if excused individuals are unable to participate in the congregational prayer, and they request the imam to designate a place in their home for prayer, then the imam is permitted to do so.
In the chapter, the excuse of rain was mentioned, and in this hadith, the excuse of an Ansari man's obesity is mentioned.
From this, the intention is to show that, according to the Shari‘ah, if there is a valid excuse, then it is permissible to remain behind from the congregation on its basis.

Hadith Commentary:
From all the aforementioned ahadith, it is understood that in a state of excuse, if some people, considering it a concession, do not attend the mosque and instead perform the prayer at home, then doing so is permissible.
However, if they act upon the original ruling (azimah) and, bearing hardship, willingly and eagerly come to the mosque, then the imam should arrange for the congregational prayer (salah in jama‘ah) for those present.
The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) also arranged the congregational prayer for the remaining worshippers in the absence of that stout man.
