Hadith 6532

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle said, "The people will sweat so profusely on the Day of Resurrection that their sweat will sink seventy cubits deep into the earth, and it will rise up till it reaches the people's mouths and ears."

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
The abundance and excess of sweat will be due to the terrors of the Day of Resurrection, the crowding of people, and the sun being brought near. However, those with perfect faith will be protected from this hardship and distress. This sweat will be in the Plain of Gathering (Mahshar), but some narrations indicate that this hardship will also be experienced in Hell.
(2)
Hafiz Ibn Hajar rahimahullah has written that the Prophets (alayhim as-salam) and the martyrs (shuhada) will be protected from this trial. The disbelievers (kuffar) will be submerged in sweat, and those who committed major sins (kabirah) will be drenched in sweat according to their deeds, but these individuals will be far fewer in number compared to the disbelievers.
(3)
The purpose of mentioning these ahadith is that a person should be concerned about saving himself from now and adopt such means and actions that will be a cause for his salvation. He should present the offering of repentance (tawbah) from sins before Allah Ta’ala, for it is Allah Ta’ala alone who can grant deliverance from this.
