Hadith Commentary:
From this hadith, it is understood that obedience to Allah leads towards Paradise, and disobedience to Him brings one closer to Hellfire.
Sometimes, the attainment of Paradise or Hell occurs through seemingly minor matters; therefore, a person should not consider even a small act of obedience insignificant, nor should he be negligent in performing it. Similarly, he should not regard a minor act of disobedience as trivial or insignificant, nor should he be heedless of it. It is possible that this small evil may become the cause of his entry into Hellfire.
The meaning of Paradise and Hell being "near" is that their attainment can be due to performing a minor act or refraining from a minor act.
