بَابُ حِفْظِ اللِّسَانِ:Chapter. To protect one’s tongue (from illegal talk, e.g., laying, abusing or backbiting, etc.).
Hadith 6474
اُردوEn
وَقَوْلِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : مَنْ كَانَ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ ، فَلْيَقُلْ خَيْرًا أَوْ لِيَصْمُتْ ، وَقَوْلِهِ تَعَالَى : مَا يَلْفِظُ مِنْ قَوْلٍ إِلا لَدَيْهِ رَقِيبٌ عَتِيدٌ سورة ق آية 18 .
And the statement of the Prophet (ﷺ): "Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should speak good or remain silent." And the statement of Allah «ما يلفظ من قول إلا لديه رقيب عتيد»: "Whatever word a person utters, there is a watcher (angel) ready to record it."
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الْمُقَدَّمِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ، سَمِعَ أَبَا حَازِمٍ ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " مَنْ يَضْمَنْ لِي مَا بَيْنَ لَحْيَيْهِ ، وَمَا بَيْنَ رِجْلَيْهِ أَضْمَنْ لَهُ الْجَنَّةَ " .
Narrated Sahl bin Sa`d: Allah's Apostle said, "Whoever can guarantee (the chastity of) what is between his two jaw-bones and what is between his two legs (i.e. his tongue and his private parts), I guarantee Paradise for him."

Hadith Commentary:

Among the human body parts, after the tongue, the organ whose protection holds special importance is a person's private parts. Therefore, in this hadith, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) has mentioned the guarantee of both these organs: that whoever takes responsibility for safeguarding his tongue and restraining the desires of his self, I guarantee Paradise for him on behalf of Allah, the Exalted.

It should also be kept in mind that the addressees of such statements of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) are those believers who fulfill the fundamental requirements of faith. On one occasion, a companion (radi Allahu anhu) asked the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) about salvation, so he replied:
"Control your tongue."

A person generally disobeys Allah Most High through the tongue and the private parts; guaranteeing these two means that he refrains from lewd actions and obscene speech.
The virtue of avoiding the extremely filthy acts associated with these two is that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) has guaranteed Paradise for such a person.
Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah) has established the virtue of abandoning indecencies and evil deeds from this hadith.
And Allah knows best.

Explanation:

Since the tongue and the private parts are the primary centers from which sins originate,
therefore, it is especially necessary to safeguard them.
The importance of this can be gauged from the fact that the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) has guaranteed Paradise for those who guarantee the protection of these two.
