بَابُ ذَهَابِ الصَّالِحِينَ:Chapter. The righteous people will depart (die).
Hadith 6434

حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ حَمَّادٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ ، عَنْ بَيَانٍ ، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ أَبِي حَازِمٍ ، عَنْ مِرْدَاسٍ الْأَسْلَمِيِّ ، قَالَ : قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " يَذْهَبُ الصَّالِحُونَ الْأَوَّلُ فَالْأَوَّلُ ، وَيَبْقَى حُفَالَةٌ كَحُفَالَةِ الشَّعِيرِ أَوِ التَّمْرِ ، لَا يُبَالِيهِمُ اللَّهُ بَالَةً " ، قَالَ أَبُو عَبْد اللَّهِ : يُقَالُ حُفَالَةٌ وَحُثَالَةٌ .
Narrated Mirdas Al-Aslami: The Prophet said, "The righteous (pious people will depart (die) in succession one after the other, and there will remain (on the earth) useless people like the useless husk of barley seeds or bad dates.

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
From this hadith, it is understood that near the Day of Judgment, this earth will become devoid of scholars and people of virtue, and only the ignorant and people of evil will remain, who will have no worth or status in the sight of Allah, nor will they be counted among any reckoning.
(2)
The people of the world should regard scholars and people of virtue with respect and follow in their footsteps; there is a fear that by opposing them, Allah will not care at all for the opponents.
And Allah knows best.
