Its explanation, and Allah the Exalted has said (in Surah Al-Hadid): "Indeed, the life of this world is nothing but play and amusement, and adornment, and boasting among yourselves, and rivalry in increase of wealth and children. Its example is like that of rain whose [resulting] plant growth pleases the tillers; then it dries and you see it turning yellow; then it becomes [scattered] debris. And in the Hereafter there is severe punishment for the disbelievers, and forgiveness from Allah and His pleasure for the believers. And the life of this world is nothing but the enjoyment of delusion."
Narrated Sahl: I heard the Prophet saying, "A (small) place equal to an area occupied by a whip in Paradise is better than the (whole) world and whatever is in it; and an undertaking (journey) in the forenoon or in the afternoon for Allah's Cause, is better than the whole world and whatever is in it."

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
If a place in Paradise the size of a stick is better than the world and all that is in it, then this means that even something less than a whip is equal to the world and all that is in it.
This very reality has been mentioned in another hadith, where the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said:
“The example of this world in comparison to the Hereafter is just like one of you dipping his finger into the sea and then looking at how much water adheres to it (the finger).”
(Sahih Muslim, al-Jannah wa Na‘imuha, Hadith: 7197 (2858))
The meaning is that, in comparison to the Hereafter, the world is so insignificant and worthless as the water that remains on the finger compared to the sea.
(2)
This example is also only for the sake of understanding; otherwise, even this proportion does not exist between the world and the Hereafter.
The world and whatever is in it are all limited and finite, whereas the Hereafter is unlimited and infinite.
There is no comparison between the finite and the infinite.
When this is the reality, then how deprived is the person who strives greatly to attain the world but has no concern for preparing for the Hereafter.
Wa Allahu al-musta‘an.
(3)
An even clearer explanation is found in another hadith: The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) passed by a dead, earless kid goat and said:
“Would any of you like to buy this dead kid for a dirham?”
The Companions said:
“We would not like to buy it for any price.”
He (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said:
“By Allah! The world is even more insignificant to Allah than this dead kid is to you.”
(Sahih Muslim, al-Zuhd, Hadith: 7418 (2957))

Hadith Commentary:
The mention of the whip is because when a rider intends to dismount from his horse, he first throws his whip onto the ground so that no one else takes possession of that spot. In Paradise, a place equivalent to the size of a whip is better than the world and all that is in it, because that place will remain forever and will never face extinction.
In contrast, the world and everything in it is perishable and destined for destruction.
And Allah knows best.

Benefits and Issues:
➊
The whip and stick that a rider uses to drive a horse—when placed on the ground, they occupy very little space. In this world, such a small piece of land holds no significance, but even such a small portion of Paradise is extremely valuable. The reason for this is that the blessings of Paradise are eternal, whereas even the greatest wealth of this world is destined to perish.
➋
The area of the earth is millions of square miles. Even its soil is valuable for humans; we purchase a small empty plot of land for hundreds of thousands of rupees, and then, after further expenses, a house is built upon it. Within the earth, there are priceless treasures of various types of minerals; it is difficult to estimate the value of a single gold mine or an oil well, while the earth contains vast reserves of minerals even more precious than gold. If one tries to estimate the total value of all the crops, trees, herbs, livestock, wild animals, etc., present on earth, it is impossible to calculate. In addition, the animal, plant, and mineral wealth present in the oceans is far greater than the treasures on land. What could be the total combined value of all these riches? Man is incapable of even making a simple estimate. Yet, all these treasures together cannot equal even a few inches of Paradise.
➌
The lowest-ranking inhabitant of Paradise will receive in Paradise a space many times greater than the greatest kingdom of this world. There will be various kinds of palaces in it. There will also be all kinds of fruits and produce. And there will be countless blessings. How foolish is man that, for a trivial worldly benefit, he sacrifices such immense wealth, honor, greatness, and glory.
