Narrated `Aisha: The Prophet used to say, "O Allah! I seek refuge with You from laziness and geriatric old age, from all kinds of sins and from being in debt; from the affliction of the Fire and from the punishment of the Fire and from the evil of the affliction of wealth; and I seek refuge with You from the affliction of poverty, and I seek refuge with You from the affliction of Al-Mesiah Ad-Dajjal. O Allah! Wash away my sins with the water of snow and hail, and cleanse my heart from all the sins as a white garment is cleansed from the filth, and let there be a long distance between me and my sins, as You made East and West far from each other."

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
Every action that is based on disobedience to Allah is called "ma'tham," which we refer to as sin. The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) used to seek refuge from it and, through his actions, also instructed the ummah to avoid it. In addition, regarding such a debt which a person does not have the ability to repay, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) would seek Allah’s protection from this type of debt. In one narration, it is mentioned that someone asked: "O Messenger of Allah! You frequently seek Allah’s protection from this type of debt; why is that?" He replied: "When a person takes a loan, he lies at every turn and whenever he makes a promise, he breaks it." (Sahih al-Bukhari, al-Adhan, Hadith: 832)
(2)
Hafiz Ibn Hajar rahimahullah has written that the one who asked about the debt was none other than Aisha radi Allahu anha herself, as is explicitly stated in the narration of Sunan an-Nasa’i. (Sunan an-Nasa’i, al-Isti‘adhah, Hadith: 5474, and Fath al-Bari: 11/211)

Hadith Commentary:
In this supplication, along with seeking refuge from the punishment of Hell, refuge is also sought from the trial (fitnah) of Hell, and along with the punishment of the grave, refuge is sought from the trial (fitnah) of the grave as well.
According to our inclination, by "punishment of Hell" is meant every punishment of Hell that will be inflicted upon those people who, due to grave crimes such as disbelief (kufr) and polytheism (shirk), will be cast into Hell.
Similarly, by "punishment of the grave" is meant the punishment that will be inflicted in the grave upon such major criminals. However, those who are criminals of a lesser degree, although they will not be cast into Hell like the people of Hell, nor will the most severe punishment be imposed upon them in the grave as it is upon the foremost criminals, nevertheless, they too will have to pass through the torments of Hell and the grave, and this punishment will suffice for them.
By the "trial (fitnah) of Hell" and the "trial (fitnah) of the grave" is meant precisely this punishment. However, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) sought refuge not only from the punishment of Hell and the punishment of the grave, but also from the trial (fitnah) of Hell and the trial (fitnah) of the grave, and through this action of his, he has instructed us to do the same.
And Allah knows best.
